CCS-M Launching Seminar (S1), 29 April 2013 and CCS Training Course on Geological Storage Selection and Characterization (T1), 30 April – 3 May 2013 Bali, Indonesia


The Launching Seminar (S1) of the CCOP CO2 Storage Mapping Program (CCS-M) was held in Bali, Indonesia on 29 April 2013.  This event was conducted by CCOP Technical Secretariat in cooperation with the Global CCS Institute (GCCSI), Norway's Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the Royal Norwegian Embassy - Jakarta, PETRAD and Indonesia's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.  Dr. Adichat Surinkum (CCOP Technical Secretariat) and Dr. Yunus Kusumahbrata of Geological Agency Indonesia delivered the welcoming address while Ms. Marianne Damhaug, Minister Counsellor of the Royal Norwegian Embassy - Jakarta, gave the opening address.  The keynote addresses were delivered by Ms. Tone Skogen of Norway's Ministry of Petroluem and Energy and Dr. Steve Whittaker of the GCCSI.

The 4-day CCS-M (T1) Training Course on CO2 Geological Storage Site Selection and Characterization was conducted in Bali immediately after the (S1) Launching Seminar of CCS-M.  The main objective is to enhance the capacities of the participants from CCOP Member Countries in the assessment of geological sites for the safe and long term storage of CO2.  Leading the training course are Prof John Kaldi and Dr. Peter Neal, prominent geoscientists from Australia's Cooperative Research Centre for Green House Gas Technologies (CO2CRC).  Also present are CCS experts from various Norwegian agencies that were invited courtesy of PETRAD - Dr. Per Christer Lund (Innovation Norway- Tokyo), Dr. Harald Johansen (IFE CO2 Center), and Mr. Mike Carpenter (DNV KEMA CCS).
