EPPM-P3W5: Workshop/training for Metadata encoder and data managers using the new CCOP GIMS, 17-19 January 2011, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

P3W5 is the 5th Workshop under Project 3 (P3), Metadata on Natural Gas Resources in the CCOP Region of the EPPM Program and organized by the CCOP Technical Secretariat with the cooperation of PETRONAS’ PMU.  The objective was to further enhance the knowledge of data managers and encoders from the Member Countries participating in the EPPM Program P3 on the new CCOP Geo-information Metadata System (GIMS) that is developed by the China Geological Survey (CGS).

A total of 25 participants represented the CCOP Member Countries- Cambodia, China, Korea, Philippines, Timor-Leste, Thailand, and Vietnam – and mainly the EPPM P3 National data managers and his/her team members or data loaders.  The main resource persons from CGS were Dr. Zhang Minghua and Dr. Liu Rongmei, members of the GIMS software development team.  The latest version of the software, based on the updated GIMS, was used in the training.  The Member Countries also selected their respective petroleum basin/acreage as Project areas, wherein the various metadata lists from the Project area were used as data inputs.

At the workshop, it was agreed that the EPPM P3 teams in each country will continue with the loading of their data from their Project area using the GIMS, to be completed by end of March 2011.  A team from PETROVIETNAM led by Mr. Luu Quang Viet, developed a metadata entry/editor tool that allows offline entry of metadata records and was highly appreciated by all the participants with a suggestion to further improve the editor to facilitate checking for error(s) offline.  Feedbacks including corrections and suggestions for improvement of GIMS were compiled at the end of the training for the attention of the system developer.

Special training for Timor Leste & Cambodia can be organized upon request, as has been discussed by the EPPM Coordinator with the P3 National data managers of both countries.   The next workshop, P3W6 on data management with CCOP GIMS, is planned to be conducted in Cambodia in the last Quarter of 2011.

A half-day Kuala Lumpur City Tour was organized by PETRONAS for the participants with the view deck of the 42nd & newly opened 86th floors of the PETRONAS Twin Towers as the first stops.
