The CCOP Technical Secretariat, in cooperation with the Geological Survey of Finland (GTK) organized a Technical Workshop on Geohazards and Climate Change on 15 June 2015 at DMR Conference Room in Bangkok, Thailand. The objective of this workshop is to have an interactive exchange of ideas as well as insights by CCOP member countries on aspects related to geohazards and climate changes, such as groundwater modeling in coastal areas, community-based landslide programme, geohazard early warning system. There were 58 participants including 3 resource persons from Geological Survey of Finland (GTK), 2 from Chaipattana Foundation, 1 from Asian Disaster Preparedness Center, 2 from Indonesia, 46 from Thailand, 2 from Vietnam and 3 from CCOPTS.
Keynote lectures were on the contents and achievements of the VIETADAPT II project, groundwater modeling in coastal areas, as well as recent examples of urban flood management in the Helsinki Metropolitan area. A discussion session was followed with focus on extension possibilities and planning for future activities in the other CCOP member countries.
This workshop is within the framework of the VIETADAPT II-project on “Developing and implementing climate change adaption measures at local level in Vietnam”, sponsored by GTK. Phase I was completed with results disseminated for CCOP member countries in a technical workshop organized in conjunction with the 48th CCOP Annual Session in Malaysia in 2012. Phase II started this year for the period 2015-2016, targeting two case studies in Vietnam and with a plan for dissemination seminars for CCOP member countries at CCOP annual sessions in 2015-2016.
