The China-ASEAN Mining Cooperation Forum & Exhibition: The 9th Liaison Officials Meetings


Dr Young Joo Lee, Director of CCOP Technical Secretariat, and Dr Dhiti Tulyatid, Regional Expert, participated in the 9th Liaison Officials Meeting of the China-ASEAN Mining Cooperation Forum & Exhibition (CAMCF) held on 12 July 2019 at the Shangri-la Jakarta Hotel, Jakarta, Indonesia.

There were a total of 15 Chinese participants and 28 participants from ASEAN countries: Indonesia (15); Lao PDR (3); Malaysia (2); Myanmar (2); Philippines (1); Thailand (1); Vietnam (2); and CCOP TS (2).

Mr Lu Jingyu, Secretary General of CAMCF, and Ms Samsia Gustina, Senior official of Indonesia, delivered the opening speech. Mr Lu also gave a briefing on the 2018 CAMCFE, which themed “Focusing on Silk Road Cooperation, Striving for Green Mining Development”. The venue provided the expo that exhibited new technologies on exploration and mining, mining machinery and gems. CAMCF also offered three special international training courses: 1. 7th China-ASEAN Mining Industry Talent Exchange Training Class (CAMCF Secretariat, 21 days); 2. the 2018 Geological Survey Information Technology Training Classes for Developing Countries (MFA & CGS); and finally 3. the Geological Disaster Prevention and Control Technology Training Class for the Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar Economic Corridor (organized by CGS).

The 2019 (the 10th) China-ASEAN Mining Cooperation Forum & Exhibition will be held during 13-17 November 2019 in Nanning, Guangxi, China. The forum is sponsored by the People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Ministry of Natural Resources of the People’s Republic of China. It will be the tenth anniversary of the CAMCFE and a the same time it will be in the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China as well as the new era of the Belt and Road Initiative. The theme of the 2019 CAMCFE is “Deepening Mutually Beneficial Mining Cooperation, Accelerating Economic Win-win Development”.

Dr Young Joo Leementioned that CCOP as the intergovernmental organization on geoscience programmes, would like to thank for the invitation to participate in this meeting and looks forward to have more cooperation with CAMCF in the near future.

Way forward: Further discussion should be made with CAMCF on the following topics:

  1. Coal green mining.
  2. CCOP as a coordinator for CAMCF Training programmes in E and SE Asia
