The CCOP Technical Secretariat, in collaboration with the Mahidol University at Kanchanaburi Campus, Thailand (MUKA), has successfully co-organized the Workshop on Promoting Earth Science and Climate Change towards Sustainable Development on 17 – 19 February 2016 in Kanchanaburi, Thailand. The workshop was organized as a pre-conference event prior to the 5th International Conference on Earth Science and Climate Change that will be held in July 2016 in Bangkok, Thailand. With support from CCOP and Mahidol University, this workshop aims to strengthen the research group on earth science and climate change, extending their work towards sustainable management for the local communities, and to establish a framework for the above mentioned upcoming International Conference.
The meeting was attended by 55 participants from CCOP Member Countries, including 7 Indonesian participants, 2 Timor Leste participants, 1 Vietnam participant, 3 resource persons, 11 local participants in Thailand, 5 Lecturers and 23 Students from Mahidol University and 3 CCOP TS staff. Presentations run under 6 technical sessions:
S1. Natural/ environmental changes and geohazards (landslides & earthquake) in view of geology and geophysics;
S2. Geological resources: mineral resources, groundwater for local communities;
S3. Speleothem / cave deposits / karst geology;
S4. Geoconservation and geotourism for sustainable development of local communities;
S5. Outreach and earth science education for general public;
S6. Packaging and delivering Research and Development (R&D) results for sustainable development.
