The 58th CCOP Steering Committee Meeting was held at the International Conference Hotel of Nanjing, China on the 26th to 28th March, 2012. The Meeting was attended by representatives of fourteen Member Countries (MC): CAMBODIA, CHINA, INDONESIA, JAPAN, REPUBLIC OF KOREA, LAO PDR, MALAYSIA, SINGAPORE, PAPUA NEW GUINEA, PHILIPPINES, TIMOR-LESTE, THAILAND and VIETNAM. Also in attendance as observers were delegates from Myanmar and Mongolia, the Vice Chairman of the Advisory Group Ms. Franca Schwarz and the Director and members of the CCOP Technical Secretariat. (CCOPTS). Dr. Oystein Berg (Representative of PETRAD) was present as Resource Person.
Dr. Wang Min, Vice-Minister of the Ministry of Land and Resources, China, welcomed the representatives of the CCOP Member Countries. Dr. R. Sukhyar, Chairman of CCOP Steering Committee, Permanent Representative of Indonesia to CCOP and Head of the Geological Agency, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR), opened the Meeting.
The CCOP Tehcnical Secretariat is now hiring an Assistant, Project Operation and Information Division. He/She will be responsible for:
Mr. Hongpeng Liu, Chief of the Energy Security and Water Resources Section at ESCAP, opened a workshop on the United Nations Framework Classification for Fossil Energy and Mineral Reserves and Resources 2009 (UNFC) in Bangkok on 9 February. Mr. Liu highlighted the critical role of fossil fuel and mineral resources for development in the region, and noted that it is a priority for ESCAP countries to be able to grow and thereby address development. “Resources are limited and access to them could become contentious. It becomes essential to be able to assess the supply base and reserves in a scientific manner that is accepted by all” observed Mr. Liu. Asia-Pacific must move forward with efficient resource management and development. UNFC is a critical step in that direction. "Implementing the UNFC will help the ESCAP region with accurate resource assessments that will promote enhanced energy security and sustainability".
Under the CCOP-Norway Cooperation Program for Enhancing Public Petroleum Management of the CCOP Member Countries (EPPM), the Annual Meeting between CCOP and the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Bangkok, and the Norwegian Partner Organizations, Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) & PETRAD, was held on 8 February 2012 in the CCOP Technical Secretariat (CCOP T/S), Bangkok, Thailand. It was attended by, H. E. Katja Nordgaard, Ambassador of Norway to Thailand; Prof. Dr. He Qingcheng, CCOP T/S Director; Dr. Oystein Berg, PETRAD Managing Director; Mr. Per Blystad, NPD Senior Advisor; Mr. Knut-Henrik Jakobsson, NPD Principal Engineer, Mr. Chatri Moonstan, Senior Program Officer, Norwegian Embassy Bangkok, Mr. Simplicio P. Caluyong, EPPM Program Coordinator, CCOP T/S, and Ms. Marivic Pulvera Uzarraga, CCOP T/S Geo-Information Sector Coordinator. The meeting was carried out to report the progress and activities of the EPPM program in the year 2011.
Thailand is still recovering from the devastating flood. To give due consideration to this situation and after consultation with all the CCOP Member Countries, we have come to a decision to re-postpone the 48th Annual Session to October/November 2012.
