Report on the CCOP-GSJ/AIST Groundwater Project, Phase II Kick-off Meeting, 1-2 October 2009, Bangkok, Thailand

The kick-off meeting of the CCOP-GSJ/AIST Groundwater Project, Phase II, held in Bangkok in October 2009, marked the continuation of the project “Groundwater Assessment and Control in the CCOP Region” supported by the Japanese Government through the Geological Survey of Japan, AIST (GSJ/AIST) since 2005. The agreement of the meeting was to release various  hydro-geological maps for end users, including the latest scientific information, at the completion of the Phase II project. The completed CCOP project will then have yielded an important data set for groundwater management in the region. Monitoring of groundwater levels and groundwater quality is a first step for groundwater management; therefore, a hydrological map should be available to provide basic data and to assist the planning of additional monitoring points in the future.

This current report is a compilation of all the individual country reports presented at the kick-off meeting of the CCOP-GSJ/AIST Groundwater Project, Phase II. It was edited by Dr. Youhei Uchida from GSJ/AIST and clearly indicates the target, framework and cooperation policy of the Phase II project as agreed at the meeting.  It provides the reader with much useful information about groundwater management in the CCOP Member Countries.
