Volcanic Hazard Mitigation
(1 April 2004 – 31 March 2007)
Upcoming Activity!!!
The second field workshop is planned to be held in Indonesia in 2005. Topics for the next workshop are as follows:
(1) How can the study for eruptive history contribute to the prediction of future eruption in middle term?
(2) How can a case study of eruption contribute to hazard map?
(3) How can geologists contribute to preparing a scenario on the eruptive sequence (activity duration, the climax of activity, eruption rate, eruption sites, eruption style)?
Project Background
This Project aims to conduct a comparative study of the volcanic hazards faced by CCOP Member Countries, the predictive methods for future eruption in middle term based on the eruptive history, hazards mapping from a volcanic eruption case study and scenario analysis on the eruptive sequence (activity duration, the climax of activity, eruption rate, eruption sites, and eruption style). This could be achieved by conducting case studies field visits, workshops and research exchange. Special training field excursions will be arranged for young volcanologists from these concerned Member Countries. Scientific papers from the study will be published.
Objectives
· To study volcanic hazards mitigation with young volcanologists, understanding different types of volcanoes in Asian countries.
· To disseminate output of the field workshops to CCOP Member Countries and to the public by conducting a short training course.
